Comments

Found throughout the lowlands, in lagoons, tanks and small streams. Does not usually occur in large rivers. Population in the dry zone tanks is now rare probably due to unsuccessful competition with exotic fishes. Reported to be absent in the Kantalai Tank, which earlier hosted a large population. Also Ref. 4833, 41236, 43638, 43640.
